Love: Reflected Love from the God of Scripture

ove. It is never a feeling nor a jolt of excitement. It isn't true that love is blind. Love can dull your senses but there's always a choice. Love manifests in goodness and purity. It does not rush and neither does it seek affection. It is unconditional.

To love is to give up anything for that someone. It is possible to be madly in love. Love is often confused with its opposite: infatuation. And often times, we define our feelings for someone as love. But the truth is only time and hardship can test love. Our hearts and minds can deceive us. And who are we but fools and weaklings who succumb to emotion. Love, though tampered by emotion, is more than a feeling. It is a deep understanding of how important someone is to you and the belief that you have to do what you can for that person. It is in our nature to love. And though most love stories are of pain, true love always ends up in happiness. Love is the foundation of virtue. And if you love something you will hate its opposite. If you love children, you will hate abortion. If you favor holiness, you will hate sin. And you know what's the ultimate secret of love? LOVE IS ONE-SIDED. I would not have known what love is if God hath not loved me first. Also, to love someone doesn't mean that the person has to love you back. The existence of unreciprocated love is the proof that love is truly one-sided. Although two persons could love each other, love flows from one direction. It may or may not be returned back, just like with God's love for His people. And even if it is returned back, it won't be exactly at the same magnitude. Still, love is perfect in a sense and does wonderful things: We were saved because of love. We were made because of love. We exist because of love. We were made whole because of love. Our God is a God of love. And no matter how much we deny it, we cannot live without love.
